Backyard Biodiversity

Kookaburras are great hunters. They will sit and wait until they sense the slightest movement on the ground and then they drop down quickly to get it. Every day our clothesline is used as a perch for the various kookaburras that live around us. They will sit and wait, then swoop down, peck at the ground and more often than not they will come away with a tasty meal. The photo strip below shows the progression of one kookaburra I photographed searching for his evening dinner. I hope you enjoy it.
