Get Hooked… Fish for Life
Get Hooked… Fish for Life is a teaching resource for NSW high schools that inspires students to adopt sustainable fishing practices and appreciate conservation of aquatic habitats. Aligned with Stage 4 and 5 (Years 7–10), curricula, it supports interdisciplinary learning and provides insights into career pathways in the marine and fisheries sectors.
At PeeKdesigns, we believe that education is the first step toward conservation. We partnered with NSW DPIRD – Fisheries to write and design the Get Hooked… Fish for Life high school teaching resources.
We didn’t just guess what teachers wanted; we asked. By surveying educators during the development phase, we ensured the final product addressed specific classroom requirements while tackling the Department’s priority topics.
The result is a robust, interdisciplinary program. From exploring both marine and freshwater fish habitats to identifying career pathways in the fisheries sector, the four units—Fishing in NSW, Understanding Habitat, Conserving Habitat, and Securing our Fisheries—provide a seamless blend of science and sustainability for students across NSW.
PeeKdesigns provided an end-to-end solution for this project. We handled the pedagogical writing and graphic designfor all resources, ensuring the content was engaging for a teenage audience. Furthermore, we utilised our extensive photography library to provide high-quality, authentic visuals for the presentations and supporting classroom materials.
“By providing insights into career pathways in the marine and fisheries sectors, this program does more than teach—it connects students to their future.”
